Underpin & Overcoat stickers

$10.00

Underpin & Overcoat is a public art installation conceived and created by Amelia Toelke (of you know, Amelia Toelke’s Charm Stand), in collaboration with Andrea Miller.

The piece rescales and reimagines political buttons and places them on the architectural exteriors of buildings. Big, bold, and bright, these buttons reference political images and slogans but without advocating specific beliefs or positions. Instead, political statement itself and the hard-won right to give voice to political ideas, emerge as the medium and the message.

In 2020 this piece debuted at four sites around Rochester, NY and included buttons designed by Toelke and Miller along with those designed by local artists who were invited to contribute their own take on the iconic object.

This limited edition sheet of five stickers commemorates the acquisition of two Miller and Toelke designed U&O buttons by the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art in New Paltz, NY. As stickers, these oversized buttons are personal-sized and ready to be stuck to anything! If you are interested, you can learn more about Underpin & Overcoat, and all the artists involved here!
